ABOUT STICKY FINGERS

" In this season of life, I have come to appreciate the little things with this path of caregiving. "
Whether we clasp hands or simply share passing moments in silent companionship, I cherish the time I have with my mother. Since her stroke, she doesn’t say as much as before, and yet much is conveyed in the inspiring way she trudges on with resilience and faith: one-sided conversations, gentle purring snores, quiet hospital car rides, wheelchair garden strolls, the occasional golden window of lucidity, wrestling thumbs...
In her silence, my mother continues to teach me, modelling courage despite her helplessness and vulnerability. Over years of care-giving, my perspective has changed from what I perceive I lost to what I've found; from what lies beyond our control to what we’ve been given. My maturation has had its share of heartache and struggle, but with acceptance has come a deeper joy, a persistent hope, and a heart of gratitude. I have been reminded of the fragility of life, and the necessity of rejoicing in small wins.
Sticky Fingers was born of a love for flowers and plants, together with a fondness for crafts, and the need for self-care: these help me return to my duties refreshed. I have learned through this walk that spending time with my mother is precious.
In spite of very difficult circumstances, I have come to recognise that our family situation is not unique. 10 years on, it only feels right to help and shed light that many other stroke patients journey on. Thank you for supporting me in my small efforts to rally alongside these causes close to my family’s heart.
